June 6 & 7, 2015 Congratulations to Alissa Woods, the youngest successful rider at the 50th anniversary of the Tom Quilty National Championship!
This ride is the premier event on the endurance calendar in Australia. It is the goal of all Australian endurance riders to attempt and be successful in this 160km ride. The inception of the Quilty Cup ride was nurtured by Erica and RM Williams who loved distance riding and their beloved Arabian horses. The Quilty was named after RM’s old mate, Tom Quilty, of Spring Vale Station in the Kimberley Ranges of WA, who donated the valuable gold cup.
Paula Boer presented a set of Brumbies novels to Alissa to celebrate her achievement. At only 13 years old, Alissa and her mare Bacchante Silver Lace (aka Quartz) completed the ride in 18 hours, 8 minutes and 4 seconds, coming 11th out of 22 junior riders.
Well done Alissa and Quartz!
